Bono, Jay-Z, Chris Martin, Madonna perform at Haiti earthquake telethon

Jay Z, Madonna, Bono, Chris Martin and Rihanna were among the major stars who performed at a George Clooney-organised benefit concert for the Haiti earthquake victims last night (January 22).

Actors Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt were also in attendance during the two-hour Hope For Haiti telethon, which was broadcast on all major US TV channels, websites including YouTube and on MTV in the UK. It was also broadcast on Haiti's Radio One.

"At the core of every religion is the belief that we care for one another, we take care of each other especially in times of need," said Clooney. "The Haitian people need our help, they need to know they're not alone, they need to know that we still care."

An estimated 1.5 million people have been left homeless by the 7.0-magnitude quake. At present the death toll is thought to be 150,000.

During the show, Beyonce sang 'Halo', accompanied on the piano by Chris Martin.
She changed the lyrics, and sang "Haiti we can see your halo, we pray you won't fade away".
Jay-Z debuted a new song, 'Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)' with U2's Bono and The Edge and Rihanna also contributing.

More than 100 Hollywood actors and musicians took part, with some of them, including director Steven Spielberg and Stevie Wonder, manning the phones to take donations from the public.
Clint Eastwood, Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Robert De Niro, Matt Damon, Denzel Washington, Daniel Craig and Jack Nicholson were among the other names rounded up by Clooney to take part.

Bruce Springsteen, Wyclef Jean and Mary J Blige also performed.

Madonna, who performed 'Like A Prayer' during the show, donated $250,000 (£155,000), Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie gave $1m (£620,000) while supermodel Gisele Bündchen gave $1.5m (£0.93m). Clooney himself donated another $1m.

Beyonce and Jay-Z Named Top-Earning Couple

Congratulations to Beyonce and Jay Z, who were named the top-earning couple of the year….again! Forbes has the duo at the top of their list for raking in $122 million last year alone. And if you think that’s a lot, they made $40 million more than that the year prior! A combination of hit songs, fashion lines, and endorsement deals secured them the number one spot.
And believe it or not, Beyonce is the bread winner of the family—she made $87 million last year, while Jay-Z pulled in $35 million. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are third on Forbes’ list with a net of $55 million. But we’re sure they’re only lower on the scale because they give so much money to charity.
Also making the top ten are Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and their pals David Beckham and Victoria Beckham. Here’s a list of the top 15 earning couples:
